Please consider leaving a gift in your Will to Conservative Way Forward. Arranging to leave a legacy in your Will is simple.
If you have an existing Will, the simplest way to leave a legacy to Conservative Way Forward is by means of a codicil or by a Letter of Wishes.
If you are preparing a new Will there are four common types of legacy you can use to leave a gift to the Conservative Way Forward.
• A residuary gift
• A cash or pecuniary gift
• A specific gift
• A reversionary gift
1. A residuary gift
This is a gift ranging from 1% to 100% of your estate after debts, other legacies and liabilities have been met. This has the advantage of automatically keeping up with inflation.
The suggested wording of a residuary gift is:
"If, at the date of my death, I am a citizen of the United Kingdom and I was, at any time within the period of five years ending with the date of my death, registered in an electoral register I give free of inheritance tax a _____% percentage share of the residue of my estate to Conservative Way Forward of 83 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0HW (Company Number 09644449) and I declare that the receipt of the person who appears to be the Secretary or other proper officer on behalf of the said company shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors."
2. A cash or pecuniary gift
You can also choose to leave a sum of money regardless of size.
The suggested wording for this form of legacy is:
"If, at the date of my death, I am a citizen of the United Kingdom and I was, at any time within the period of five years ending with the date of my death, registered in an electoral register I give free of inheritance tax the sum of £_____ (in figures and words) to Conservative Way Forward of 83 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0HW (Company Number 09644449) and I declare that the receipt of the person who appears to be the Secretary or other proper officer on behalf of the said company shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors."
3. A specific gift
This is the gift of something valuable like a property, a piece of jewellery or stocks shares. The form of wording is the same as a pecuniary gift, except that the gift is specified instead of a cash sum.
4. A reversionary gift
This gift has the advantage of providing for your family first and then benefiting the Conservative Way Forward. So when the original beneficiary dies, the gift in your will reverts to the Conservative Foundation. Your solicitor or legal advisor will be able to provide you with the wording for this form of legacy.
Your solicitor will be able to advise you as to the most appropriate legacy to meet your personal requirements. Letter of Wishes
If you have already made a Will, you may wish to consider writing a letter of wishes that can be given to your Trustees/Executors requesting they make a donation from your estate to Conservative Way Forward.
A letter of wishes is an informal letter addressed to your Trustees/Executors which expresses what you would like to happen following your death. Unlike your Will, the letter of wishes does not become a publicly available document on death and is not a legally binding document.
